Born in Japan and now based in Seattle, Saori Matsushita develops, through Saori M Stoneware, a ceramic universe where contemporary art meets everyday objects. Trained in sculpture at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, she reinterprets the Japanese techniques of Nerikomi and Neriage, which consist of layering coloured clays to allow patterns to emerge from the material itself — without paint or added decoration.
Her collections combine functional pieces with poetic sculptures, inspired by origami, textiles, and childhood memories: cups, vases, plates, and sculptural objects handcrafted in small batches.
Through a minimalist yet playful aesthetic, Saori creates durable, sensitive, and expressive objects designed to bring art into everyday gestures and transform use into emotion.
