Nerikomi Notepad Origami Fortune Teller Sculpture

This porcelain sculpture is inspired by the origami fortune teller many of us made from notepad paper as children, known by different names around the world, such as cootie catcher, cocotte, or pajarita. Despite the variations, the shared memory remains. You likely held one of these in your hands long ago.

Using the Nerikomi technique, the ruled lines of a notepad are embedded into the porcelain itself. Thinly sliced porcelain sheets are then folded and assembled by hand, as if working with actual paper.

This work is a small monument to childhood, a form that does not fade, even as time passes.
